The purpose of this
essay is to create a comparison of the role of the media in
the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s and what
some have called "The New Civil Rights Movement" of today
(the last ten years or so).
Specifically, in what ways have the media influenced the
progress of these different movements? In what ways, if any,
has this influence changed over the last fifty years?
Consider the new types of media--blogs, X, Instagram, and
other social media, etc.--in your discussion.
In order to get some background information to support your
discussion of the past movement, you will select at least one
of the videos found on the website "Television News and the Civil
Rights Struggles" .
You must also discuss and
provide a link to at least one story from a mainstream media
source (i.e., t.v. station) and one "story" from another form
of media discussing the same event from today's movement.
Papers must be double-spaced, and include an outline
(which does not count toward the 750-word minimum).
Be sure your thesis is clear and precise and that your
supporting evidence is adequate, specific, and effective.
Of course, you must also clearly identify any
information that comes from an outside source.
Also be sure to eliminate all mechanical errors and to
use spellcheck, both with your computer and your own eyes.
